Imagine with us, for a moment, a church. A church that is planted in the center of a major international Asian city.
It is a church that has, at the heart of its DNA, the grand narrative of the redemptive story of Jesus Christ, and a church that celebrates in the freedom and grace that such a story brings.
It is a church filled with a diversity that embraces the richness of the cultures so prominent in the city around it, and yet moves forward with a strength of unity not before seen in any other aspect of that city’s society.
Imagine with me this church, made up of broken jars of clay who yet confidently understand what it means to be identified in Christ, people like you and I who have been touched by the mercy of reconciliation and the grace of redemption, and who are subsequently committed to modeling a new humanity within their individual spheres of influence.
A church that does not make its Sunday services the exclamation mark of its existence but instead the comma in its ongoing sentence - a time of service, love and engagement that inspires and emboldens all equally for the conversation that lies ahead.
A church whose focus and dedication is so entrenched and effective in restoring broken and lost communities that the Government of the city seeks their input and advice on policy matters that really do matter.
A church that cares, disciples, rebuilds, renews.
This is the church that we imagine, and the church that we strive to be.
