What is baptism?
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward reality of the commitment to belief in Christ. Baptisms was exemplified by Jesus’ own baptism, yet he also commands us to be baptised and to baptise others via the Great Commission in Matthew 28 when he spoke the powerful words, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” So what is baptism? Theologian Millard Erickson defines baptism as, “an act of faith and testimony that we have been united with Christ in His death and resurrection.” Thus, we believe that baptism is an important event in a full expression of following Christ.
